Top Law Firms to Examine Pathways to Net Zero at Annual Renewables Seminar

Renewable energy specialists from Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP (WJM) and Irwin Mitchell will address key topics at WJM’s annual renewables seminar, “Achieving Alignment: The Realities of Delivering Net Zero.”

Recognized as one of the most dynamic and insightful renewables events of the year, the seminar will convene leading experts to discuss critical energy sector issues, including biodiversity, planning, and grid integration.

The event, scheduled for November 7 at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall, offers attendees valuable insights into the policies and trends shaping Scotland’s renewable energy future as the country works towards its ambitious energy goals.

“We’re thrilled to host a lineup of exceptional speakers who will address some of the top issues currently facing renewable energy developers,” said Andy McFarlane, WJM’s Head of Renewables. “Grid challenges are a key topic this year, and we’re pleased to include representatives from both developers and NESO on our speaker panel. Our planning update remains a major highlight, with timely discussions on topics like Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and aviation lighting, especially relevant given NPF4 and the Sector Deal.”

He added, “Last year, we welcomed over 100 renewables professionals for a day of networking and valuable content. We look forward to building on that success.”

The seminar will feature prominent speakers, including WJM’s Managing Partner Fraser Gillies, who will provide a detailed planning update on the past year’s significant planning decisions affecting renewables projects. Claire Petricca-Riding, Partner and Head of Planning and Environment at Irwin Mitchell, will discuss recent developments in biodiversity enhancement and net gain, drawing from her experience in England to highlight lessons for Scotland’s renewable energy landscape.

Neil Copeland from NESO will outline NESO’s Clean Power 2030 initiatives, exploring how the organization’s plans align with the UK Government’s Clean Power Plan. Kate Dooley of RES will address the REMA program and market reforms, focusing on the industry’s needs for planning policies and a Strategic Spatial Energy Plan to meet future energy demands.

Geum Howatson, Senior Consenting Manager at Locogen, will cover topics including guidance on aviation lighting, the Onshore Wind Sector Deal, and updates from the Aviation Lighting Guidance Working Group.

The seminar will conclude with networking, drinks, and canapés, providing an excellent opportunity for attendees to connect with peers in the renewable energy sector.
