Clarke Willmott LLP, a national law firm, has provided legal counsel on the acquisition of a 12-acre site for the development of new homes in the world’s first garden city.
The LG3 project is located in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, which holds historical significance as the first garden city, established in 1903. This site is also home to the UK’s first roundabout.
Barratt David Wilson North Thames is to build 120 homes on the site off Talbot Way in Letchworth, 48 of them affordable, after acquiring the land from Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation.
CBRE were the commercial property agents on the deal, with legal advice provided by Simon Day, partner and managing director of the commercial property team at Clarke Willmott, and Jade Lyus, senior associate in the firm’s planning and environmental team, who advised on the Section 106 agreement.
Simon Day said: “Letchworth Garden City was a trailblazer when it became the world’s first garden city, so it is great to be involved in helping to facilitate its further growth.
“Not only will this result in more much-needed homes in an area of high demand, but the new homes will of necessity be built to the highest standards of design and landscaping.”
