Access Legal Partners with Urban Lawyers to Equip Aspiring Legal Professionals

London-based law students recently participated in a transformative day of practical advice and career-focused learning, hosted by Access Legal in partnership with Urban Lawyers. This initiative aimed to support aspiring legal professionals as they prepare to enter the industry.

Access Legal, part of The Access Group and a leading provider of software and services to the UK legal sector, partnered with Urban Lawyers, a charity dedicated to improving access to the legal profession. Together, they hosted an Insights Day at Access Legal’s London office, sharing their expertise to equip future lawyers with the knowledge and tools needed for success.

The event highlighted Access Legal’s commitment to fostering diversity in the legal sector and supporting law firms in talent attraction and retention. Students gained valuable insights into the workings of the legal industry, the role of technology in law, and practical advice on CV writing and interview preparation through workshops and best practice sessions.

By offering this unique learning experience, Access Legal demonstrated its dedication to not only supporting law firms but also empowering the next generation of legal talent.

One of the students who took part said it was “an honour” to attend and added: “The event was a fantastic blend of inspiration and practical learning. The constructive feedback I received was incredibly insightful and has left me feeling more confident and better equipped to tackle future interviews.”

Urban Lawyers, a charity set up by international human rights barrister Dr Tunde Okewale OBE, aims to make legal courses and careers more accessible to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Dr Okewale said the event was a perfect way to connect with future legal professionals to share their expertise and advice of working in the legal area: “We’re passionate about improving social mobility and diversity in the legal sector – a profession that has been limited to many young people because of where they have grown up or the schools they have gone to. Events like this help tackle the diversity challenge within the legal profession and exposes the students Urban Lawyers supports, to an opportunity to learn in a way they may not otherwise be able to.”

Andrew Stevens, Access Legal General Manager, shared: “It was fantastic to see how keen the students were to learn about the legal sector and prepare themselves for a career in law upon graduation. Events like this further demonstrate Access Legal’s commitment to supporting the legal market, as well as helping to promote and encourage a diverse workforce, setting young people up for success with their future career path.”

Supporting charities is at the core of The Access Group’s key values and employees take part in a variety of initiatives throughout the year, allowing them to give something back to their communities and make a difference to causes they are passionate about.

Access Legal regularly supports charitable groups and projects through its Charity of the Year initiative and The Access Foundation, which was set up to bridge the digital divide within the UK and give back to local communities.
