Cadwalader Strengthens Its London Practice with High-Profile Fund Finance Experts Bronwen Jones, Douglas Murning, and Matthew Worth

Cadwalader has expanded its London office with the addition of three prominent UK fund finance lawyers – Bronwen Jones, Douglas Murning, and Matthew Worth – who join as partners.

“We are excited to welcome Bron, Doug, and Matt to our team,” said Pat Quinn, Managing Partner at Cadwalader. “Their reputation as leaders in fund finance across Europe, along with their expertise in leveraged finance, private credit, special situations, and restructuring, makes them an exceptional addition to our growing London practice.”

Wes Misson, head of Cadwalader’s Fund Finance practice, emphasized, “The addition of these partners strengthens our commitment to offering top-tier, cross-border legal advice and deal execution. As the global fund finance market evolves, a comprehensive full-service approach becomes increasingly necessary. We are the only firm offering this, and their multidisciplinary experience in debt finance further solidifies our strong London team.”

Bron comes to Cadwalader from a leading international law firm, while Doug and Matt both join from a top global law firm.

Bron has over 20 years’ experience in fund finance, having been active in the space since its inception in the London market. She acts for banks and other financial institutions, sponsors, general partners and fund managers on a whole range of fund finance matters, including capital call (subscription line) facilities, net asset value (NAV) facilities, hybrid facilities, and general partner and co-investment facilities. Chambers UK has ranked Bron as a Band 1 fund finance lawyer for the past four years, and The Legal 500 UK lists her as a Leading Partner in the same category.

With over 20 years’ experience in debt finance, Doug is regarded as a market leader in complex NAV and portfolio financings, having been at the forefront in the rise of the European market over recent years, primarily advising investment bank and credit fund clients. In addition to fund financing, he focuses his practice on leveraged finance, private debt and special situations, working with credit funds and private equity sponsors. Doug has been recognized by The Legal 500 UK as a Leading Partner for fund finance for the last four years and as an “expert in fund finance, leveraged finance and private debt.”

Matt’s practice complements both Bron and Doug’s. He covers all aspects of fund finance and private credit, with a particular focus on advising on NAV financings for private equity sponsors and direct lending. Matt also has significant experience in a broad range of debt finance, including leveraged finance, project and infrastructure finance, special situations and restructuring. He has been recognized by The Legal 500 UK for his work in complex fund financing where it is noted that “his restructuring experience is invaluable to lender clients.”

Bron, Doug and Matt are key additions to an already robust and growing European Fund Finance team, which already comprises more than a dozen London-based fully dedicated fund finance professionals. They will be working closely with George Pelling and Trent Lindsay, and will benefit from the support of more than 65 fund finance professionals in the firm’s other offices, as well as the adjunct discipline of capital markets. Cadwalader has welcomed over 30 lateral partners since 2021 in areas of strategic importance to clients. This has included a transatlantic team focused on private credit and special situations, with Smridhi Gulati, Matt Smith and Bevis Metcalfe in London.

“I’m looking forward to being part of such an accomplished fund finance team,” said Bron. “The UK fund finance market continues to grow in both sophistication of transactions and range of industry participants. I believe Cadwalader is uniquely positioned to lead the industry’s continued maturation.”

“I’m thrilled to join the team at Cadwalader,” said Doug. “The key attraction of being part of the firm is the opportunity to deliver to our clients a unique transatlantic fund financing and capital solutions team. I’m looking forward to advising clients on increasingly sophisticated NAV and portfolio financing matters across the globe with the Cadwalader team, including my fellow new colleagues who I’ve known for some time.”

Matt added, “This is a very exciting time to join the firm in London as part of the broader buildout of Cadwalader’s market-leading private capital offering. The firm represents an excellent platform to provide a global NAV financing offering, and we offer a deep bench of highly skilled dedicated counsel. I look forward to working with clients on the most sophisticated deals in the market.”
