Burges Salmon boosts Net Zero and renewable Heat Networks practice

The firm welcomes experienced Renewable Energy sector lawyer, Charles Robson, to lead its Heat Networks practice, with partner James Horton.

Burges Salmon is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Robson, who joins the firm to lead its Heat Networks practice, with partner James Horton.

Prior to joining Burges Salmon, Charles was a partner at Womble Bond Dickinson where he led the firm’s Heat Networks practice.  He specialises in the development and financing of infrastructure projects and advises project sponsors, lenders and public sector authorities on project structuring, risk allocation and bankability aspects of projects across a broad range of sectors, including low carbon energy.  In addition to primary market work, Charles also advises on the acquisition and disposal of interests in project assets and on re-financings.

Charles comments: “Burges Salmon’s Energy practice is very highly regarded right across the UK in energy and decarbonisation projects, with an impressive and diverse range of clients.  There is a big challenge ahead for the UK to decarbonise Heat and I’m delighted to be part of Burges Salmon’s team advising clients on Heat Network projects and delivering the UK’s Net Zero ambitions.”

Nick Churchward, a partner in Burges Salmon’s Energy and Utilities team, adds: “It’s great to be able to announce Charles’ arrival at the firm.  He is a hugely experienced energy lawyer with an excellent track record and reputation in advising on district heating projects and we’re delighted that he has decided to join us.”

As a vital part of the UK’s plan to reduce carbon, a heat network – also known as district heating – is a distribution system of insulated pipes that takes heat from a central source and delivers it to a number of domestic or non-domestic buildings.

Charles Robson joined Burges Salmon on 14 November 2022.
