Expertise of Thrings teams and individuals is recognised in Legal 500 guide

Thrings lawyers in the South West have been recognised with recommendations in the latest edition of a world-renowned guide to outstanding legal professionals.

The Legal 500 United Kingdom 2023 reviews the strengths of lawyers across the UK and recommends them based on feedback from their clients and their peers.

Success in the rankings reflects the breadth and depth of Thrings’ specialist sector teams in private wealth, banking and finance, agriculture and development of land.

Across the firm, Thrings teams working in Bath and Bristol were recommended in 19 practice areas:

The firm’s Private Client specialists are recognised for expertise in family law, contentious trusts and probate, and personal tax, trusts and probate.

The Thrings Corporate and Commercial teams are well represented, with recognition for the firm’s dispute resolution team’s expertise in commercial litigation and debt recovery.

The firm’s work in the world of finance is recognised with a recommendation for its South-West Banking and Finance team, including our experts in insolvency and corporate recovery.

Its strength in Real Estate in the region results in recommendations for teams working in commercial property, construction, environment and planning. Also recommended in the South West are the Employment team and specialists in IT and telecoms and intellectual property.

Alongside outstanding teams, the Legal 500 also recognises individuals, with a total of 38 Thrings lawyers mentioned by name for their standout contribution to their respective practices.

There are six listings for Thrings people as Leading Individuals, which refers to true market leaders with long-established reputations in their sector and exceptional widespread recognition and endorsement from their peers and clients.

They are: Russell Reeves, head of the Agriculture Litigation Team; Ramona Derbyshire, who appears twice – once as a Partner in the Commercial Dispute Resolution team and again in her role as Head of Recoveries; Sally Pike in the Family team; Mike Tomlin, Head of Banking and Finance; and Megan Jefferies, a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution team.

Three are listed as “Next Generation Lawyers” which the Legal 500 describes as lawyers who have received significant recognition from clients and peers and played recent lead roles on multiple matters.

These are: Robert James, a litigator who specialises in complex disputes; Katy Barber, a Senior Associate in the Romsey-based Family team, and Elaine Meyrick, Partner in the Corporate and Commercial team.

Simon Holdsworth, Managing Partner at Thrings, said: “We are proud to see our teams and individuals so well represented in this prestigious guide to lawyers working across the UK. Recommendations in the Legal 500 are especially highly valued because they are based on feedback from clients and others we work with.

“Our strong presence reflects the Thrings reputation for pragmatic, clear advice from specialist sector teams working in private wealth, banking and finance, agriculture and development of land, and the role we play in all our regions as trusted advisers to support businesses and entrepreneurs.”

Thrings has offices in Romsey, London, Bristol, Bath, and Swindon, and recently added teams in the Wye Valley through a merger with Okells FrancisLaw.
