London firm increases financial support for rookies on the LPC

Ashurst – a London law firm – is set to increase maintenance for trainees undertaking the Legal Practice Course (LPC).

The firm recently provided £8,000 in maintenance to its trainees on the LPC or LLM LPC, as well as a £2,000 interest-free loan. The sum has now been uplifted by 25 per cent to £10,000 with the loan remaining.

Ashurst’s current trainees study the LPC at The University of Law, but those joining after September 2024 will be required to study Ashurst’s LLM LPC which prepares students to sit the Solicitors Qualifying Exam.

The move to uplift grants comes as magic circle duo Freshfields and Slaughter and May raised their grants to £12,500 while Clifford Chance gave the same increase last month.

Earlier this year, Ashurst, which takes on around 40 trainees each year, boosted its newly qualified lawyer wage to £105,000 from £90,000.
