Wingstop UK Founders Sell Majority Stake to Sixth Street with Freeths’ Legal Expertise

Freeths has provided legal counsel to the founders of Wingstop UK on the sale of a majority stake in the business to global private equity firm Sixth Street.

Established in 2018, Wingstop UK has successfully localized the globally recognized brand by immersing itself in British youth culture. Through strategic collaborations, partnerships, and events, the franchise has built strong ties with the UK’s music, fashion, and sports scenes.

Since launching its first location, Wingstop UK has rapidly expanded, creating over 2,500 jobs and earning the title of the UK’s fastest-growing restaurant brand. By the end of 2024, the franchise had 57 sites nationwide, with plans to scale up to 200 locations within the next five years.

The Freeths team was led by Partner Francis Dalton, with support from Partner Stephen Jones, Director Matthew Cooper and Managing Associate Ewen Lowrie.

Commenting on the transaction, Francis Dalton said: “We were delighted to advise the Wingstop UK founders on this milestone transaction. This partnership with Sixth Street marks a significant step in Wingstop UK’s journey, positioning the brand for continued growth and innovation in the vibrant UK market.”

Wingstop UK founder, Tom Grogan, added: “The Freeths team delivered clear and timely advice every step of the way. We truly felt supported by their expertise and collaborative approach. It was a pleasure to work with such a dedicated and professional team.”
